Twenty-four people killed after two female suicide bombers attacked a mosque in Nigeria

Twenty-four people were killed and dozens of others injured after two female suicide bombers attacked a mosque during dawn prayers in the northeast Nigerian city of Maiduguri.

 

The mosque is in the Boko Haram stronghold of Umarari, a district on the outskirts of the city. State emergency spokesperson Abdul Mohammed said that dozens of people were transported to hospitals injured in the bast.

 

According to witnesses, one female suicide bomber entered the mosque and detonated her device while the other female bomber detonated her vest outside of the mosque at the same time survivors were fleeing from the initial blast.

 

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
