United Nations: Saudi Arabia failed to avoid hitting civilians during airstrikes in Yemen

The United Nations Human Rights Chief, Zeid Raad al-Hussein, in a statement on Friday condemned the repeated failure of the Saudi-led coalition to avoid hitting civilians during its airstrikes in Yemen after at least one hundred people were killed in one strike on a crowded market.

Al-Hussein denounced the “carnage” from a Tuesday’s strike on the Al Khamees market in the Hajja province calling for a transparent and independent investigation on these airstrikes.

UN officials went to the location of the strike on Wednesday and found no significant military operations in the area of the bombardment but, rather, found sixteen village shops destroyed.

On Thursday Saudi Arabia said that it would scale down its operation in Yemen.
