United States arrests transnational gang members in a five-week sweep

Federal authorities say that they have arrested more than one thousand people in a five-week period associated with transnational gangs across the United States.


The nationwide operation took place in Los Angeles, San Juan, Atlanta, San Francisco, Houston, and El Paso.


One hundred and thirty-two of the one thousand one hundred and thirty-three people that were arrested are facing charges including immigration violations. The operation “Project Shadowfire” also brought the arrest of two hundred and thirty-nine foreign nationals from thirteen countries in Central America, Asia, Europe and the Caribbean.
