Syrian troops have found a mass grave containing an estimated forty bodies including several women and children in the ancient city of Palmyra.
The grave, on the north-eastern edge of the city, contained both beheaded and victims who were shot.
At least twenty-four of the victims were civilians, including three children. A military source told AFP the victims were believed to be officers, soldiers, members of the pro-regime militia and their relatives.
Some of the victims have already been identified.
