Australians detained in Lebanon including journalists in connection with kidnapping two children

Lebanese authorities have detained four Australians, including journalists in connection with the attempted abduction of two children in Beirut.

Authorities said they have also arrested a British citizen who they believe was planning to smuggle the children out of Lebanon on his boat.

Police said all the individuals are being questioned about the kidnapping of Noah and Lahela al-Amin. They are the son and daughter of a Lebanese man and an Australian woman who have lived in Lebanon since last year.

According to authorities, the children were taken after an attack on their Lebanese grandmother while she was taking them to school citing the cause of the attack was a domestic dispute.

The names of the individuals who have been detained have not been released but Australian media said journalists working for Channel Nine’s 60 Minutes were among those arrested including TV presenter Tara Brown.

Channel nine employees told local reporters that the 60 Minutes crew was not physically present when the children’s kidnapping took place.
