Writer and law student hacked to death in Bangladesh

Twenty-six-year-old secular writer and law student Nazimuddin Samad was hacked to death by machete-wielding men on Wednesday night in the capital of Bangladesh.

Police said that Samad was a masters student at Jagannath University calling the murder a pre-planned attack.

Police Commissioner Nurul Amin of the Dhaka Police told reporters, “He was on his way back home from his evening classes when he was circled by a group of three to four people,” adding, “First the attackers hacked Samad with machetes, then shot him”.

Samad is the sixth secularist writer or publisher to have been murdered in Dhaka.
