The first sexual assault trials related to attacks on New Year’s Eve began on Monday in Duesseldorf, Germany.
Thirty-three-year-old, Toufik M is part of a group of nearly twenty men who surrounded a woman and groped her.
German police received one thousand five hundred and twenty-seven criminal complaints, with more than five hundred victims of sexual crimes. Most of the attacks took place in Cologne. Authorities described the suspects as predominantly Arab and North African men.
In Cologne, a twenty-six-year-old Algerian was charged last month with groping a woman.
Since the New Year’s Eve attacks, Germany has made it easier to deport foreign criminals especially for crimes involving sexual assault.
