The Taliban has claimed responsibility for an explosion in the Afghan capital of Kabul on Tuesday that killed at least twenty-eight people and wounded over three hundred others.
Authorities said most of the victims of the attack were civilians primarily women and children.
Officials said that a suicide bomber detonated a vehicle filled with explosives in a private parking lot a second attacker then entered a building engaging in a two-hour gun battle with Afghan security forces.
Witnesses reported hearing the gunfire near the Afghan Defense Ministry and presidential palace.
According to women’s rights activist Wazhma Frogh the explosion took place in an area close to schools.
